Established in the early 1900s, the Eliza Battle Pittman Scholarship Fund is one of the oldest funds on record with Saint Mary’s School, an Episcopal high school located in Raleigh, NC.  Members of the Eliza Battle Pittman family, who resided in Tarboro, NC and were members of Calvary Episcopal Church, created this fund to encourage attendance at St. Mary’s by members of Calvary Church, and to honor Eliza Battle Pittman.

In recent years, this fund has been given to top students of Saint Mary’s School, including the 2005 valedictorian. First preference is given to Episcopalians from Edgecombe County, but other young women have received this important scholarship when all of the preferred criteria have not been met.

Students receiving the Eliza Battle Pittman Scholarship may be eligible to receive additional school funds to be used in combination with income from this important scholarship fund in order to defray tuition expenses.

The St Mary's Scholarship Committee is responsible for advertising the scholarship, receiving and judging applications, and making recommendations to the Vestry of Calvary Church, in whom (assuming that the candidate has been accepted by St Mary's) the final decision rests.

The Scholarship Committee is made up of members of Calvary Parish who have some interest in the school and meets only as needed.  Current Chairman is Sylvia Nash. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship or serving on the committee, please contact Sylvia Nash, St Mary's Scholarship Committee Chairman, 1004 Main St. Tarboro, NC, 27886. 252-823-3633 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
